About Us

We exist to promote, at an African level, a dialogue between the Church and the Modern World in line with the thinking of the Second Vatican Council document, Gaudium et Spes, which stipulates that the Church should be visibly present, relevant and influential in the modern world. Hence the name of the Institute, Gaudium et Spes Institute.

The Institute was founded in 1997. It was 25 years old in 2022!

Founder

Gaudium et Spes Institute was founded by His Grace, Archbishop John O. Onaiyekan, then Archbishop of Abuja, now His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus.

He is a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja. He had his Philosophical and Theological studies and formation at St. Thomas Aquinas' Major , Makurdi - Benue State. He did his Masters Degree in Psycho-Spiritual Therapy and Counseling at Psycho-Spiritual Institute of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi - Kenya. Fr Mathias came to Gaudium Et Spes Institute in July 2018.

He is a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja. He had his Philosophical and Theological at the Major Seminary of Saints Peter and Paul , Bodija, Ibadan. He did his Masters Degree in Psycho-Spiritual Therapy and Counseling at Psycho-Spiritual Institute of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi - Kenya. Fr John-Mary came to Gaudium Et Spes Institute in July 2018.
